DIFC expects 20% (re)insurance premium growth in 2026 as it courts Asia-Africa reinsurance flows

The DIFC expects its (re)insurance sector to grow about 20% in 2026 after gross written premiums of $4.2bn in 2025, Middle East Insurance Review reported. Its insurance head pitched the centre as a gateway for Asia-Middle East-Africa reinsurance.

Gracita Aoa-De Gracia, Head of Insurance and Reinsurance at the DIFC Authority, told a roundtable that growth is estimated at 20% this year, matching 2025, Asia / Middle East Insurance Review reported. DIFC (re)insurance entities wrote $4.2bn of gross premiums in 2025: $2.9bn from MGAs and $1.3bn from carriers and captives.

Growth has accelerated: the first $1bn took 10 years, while doubling to $4bn took three. The centre hosts more than 70 MGAs and over 70 reinsurance brokers and manages sovereign programmes including Morocco's national flood scheme and Oman's flood programme. She argued that its location between London and Singapore appeals to Asian insurers.
