Sharjah is testing an upgraded version of Aman, a fire-monitoring system that now uses AI-enabled thermal cameras and drones to verify alarms before emergency crews are dispatched, The National reported. Facility management company Saned developed the system with the Sharjah Civil Defence Authority. It has run since 2018 and monitors around 13,700 buildings.

Cameras detect flames, smoke and unusual heat, and drones can check sites without camera coverage. The drones fly up to 20km on a battery that lasts up to an hour and send data over 5G. According to the presentation, the system has so far detected 500 verified fire incidents and reported them to the authority.

A civil defence official said unclear alarms send fire engines to places with no fire, which wastes time and effort. The technology is aimed mainly at warehouses and industrial sites.
