Bupa Arabia's nine-month profit edges up 0.8% to SAR1.04bn as insurance revenue grows 14%

Bupa Arabia's net profit after zakat for the first nine months of 2026 rose 0.8% to SAR1.04bn while insurance revenue grew 14% to SAR16.16bn, according to Saudi financial news reports of its preliminary results. Third-quarter profit fell 5% to about SAR345m, which the health insurer linked to a one-off zakat reversal a year earlier and to higher operating costs.

Bupa Arabia for Cooperative Insurance published preliminary results for the nine months to 30 September 2026 on 2 November, the Saudi financial news site Jawlah reported. Net profit after zakat and tax attributable to shareholders was SAR1.039bn, up 0.8% from about SAR1.030bn a year earlier. Profit before zakat and tax rose 3.9% to SAR1.224bn.

Growth was far stronger at the top line. Insurance revenue increased 14% to SAR16.16bn and gross written premiums rose 12.9% to SAR18.83bn, Jawlah reported. The insurance service result grew 4.6% to SAR958.5m and net investment income rose 12.2% to SAR626.0m. Other operating expenses climbed 19.8% to SAR371.0m, which the company said reflected spending to support business growth and larger volumes.

In the third quarter alone, net profit after zakat and tax fell 5.3% to SAR344.7m from SAR364.0m, according to Jawlah's figures. Ajel, which reports the quarter in rounded terms as a 5% fall to SAR345m from SAR364m, carried the company's explanation: a non-recurring gain in the third quarter of 2025, when it reversed a zakat provision after settling obligations for earlier years, and higher operating expenses. Jawlah put quarterly insurance revenue up 11.4% at SAR5.62bn and the insurance service result up 12.2% at SAR331.1m.

Total comprehensive income attributable to shareholders fell about 33% to SAR775.3m for the nine months, Jawlah reported. The company put this down to fair-value movements on its sukuk portfolio, which it holds at fair value through other comprehensive income, and said the changes reflected temporary shifts in market interest-rate expectations. Earnings per share were SAR7.01 against SAR6.90 a year earlier.
