Houthi attack on Riyadh airport kills 12, wounds 309 and grounds hundreds of flights

An attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh killed 12 people and wounded 309, the deadliest strike on Saudi Arabia in more than a decade, The National reported. It was the third Houthi attack on the airport in one week, and about 260 flights were cancelled.

The attack on Saturday afternoon killed four Saudi citizens and eight foreign nationals, including an American, the General Authority of Civil Aviation said. Some of the injured were in critical condition. The kingdom's warning system did not sound a threat alert, The National reported.

Two earlier attacks that week killed four people and heavily damaged a Saudi commercial aircraft parked on the tarmac. Flightradar24 data showed that about 260 Riyadh flights were cancelled and 219 delayed on Saturday. Kuwait's national carrier was among the airlines that cancelled services.

US President Donald Trump called the attack "not acceptable" and said Washington may consider joining the Saudi-led coalition against the Houthis. The coalition, which has started a ground offensive in Yemen and says it has retaken the port of Mokha, vowed to respond.
