Manulife says its Quick Quote underwriting support tool now automates more than 70% of preliminary underwriting assessments in its US business. In the first quarter of 2026 the share was nearly 50%. The insurer gave the figure in its third-quarter 2026 results, published on 4 November.

Manulife describes the tool as part of its "AI-enabled underwriting capability" for US life insurance, which it says it is expanding to reduce average turnaround time. The results do not give a turnaround time for the quarter or the number of cases that the tool handled.

The disclosure came as the US business, John Hancock, returned to profit. Net income attributed to shareholders was US$137m in the quarter, against a loss of US$54m a year earlier. US core earnings rose to US$254m from US$241m. US sales, measured as annualised premium equivalent, were flat at US$147m, Insurance Business reported.

Across the group, Manulife reported record core earnings of C$2.1bn. In the same results it said it is extending Microsoft 365 Copilot to more than 30,000 employees and deploying Microsoft Agent 365 to strengthen enterprise AI governance.
