Australian insurers submit to ASIC a Code of Practice that would make key promises legally enforceable

The Insurance Council of Australia has submitted a revised General Insurance Code of Practice to ASIC for approval. Key obligations would become part of consumer insurance contracts, enforceable through the courts, AFCA or an independent committee. Home and motor claims left undecided for 12 months, for reasons within an insurer's control, would be accepted automatically.
